PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Child and Youth service workers are indispensable in the health system. This advanced Diploma is a unique
opportunity for those who are passionate about working with children and youth who have social,
emotional, or behavioral issues.
Students take courses that cover a wide range of problems and situations,
including (but not limited to) depression, addiction, aggression, abuse, and poverty. Students learn crisis
management, treatment options and strategies, counselling, case management and child & adolescent
development, with a high understanding of how sociological, psychological, and familiar factors affect
today’s children and youth. Placements for practicum may be staggered throughout the program to allow
students to apply skills as they are learned.
This program will give you hands-on and job ready training. Helping today’s youth with physical and
mental health, family concerns, legal issues, access and success in education, and real-life skills. You will
have the ability to collaborate with other mental health and community service workers to make that
difference that you are looking to achieve. Students will also have the opportunity to receive external
certificates throughout their program such as: Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), First Aid/CPT,
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
