English Language Proficiency (ELP): Since English is the language of instruction at Cambrooks College, candidates whose first language is not English, and those from countries where English is not the language of instruction, will be required to provide an ELP. Please see our ELP policy.
Admission Standards for Diploma and Certificate Programs at Cambrooks College
All students must complete a successful interview with the College to determine suitability for the program of interest (International students are expected to have a phone or email discussion with the Program Manager).
1.0 Standard Admission for Certificate Programs
Every student applying for certificate programs, including the Health Care Aide Alberta Provincial Curriculum Certificate will be required to possess the following qualifications:
1a. English (grade 12) and math (grade 10) or equivalent from another Canadian province, as verified by transcripts
OR
1b. GED (score of 450 in LA and 400 in Math)
2a. Be 18 years of age or older
OR
2b. Be 17 years of age, with a high school diploma (secondary school certificate)
1.1 Standard Admission for Diploma Programs
Students applying for diploma programs are required to possess the following qualifications:
1a. English (grade 12) and math (grade 12) or equivalent from another Canadian province, as verified by transcripts
OR
1b. GED (score of 450 in LA and 450 in Math)
2a. Be 18 years of age or older
OR
2b. Be 17 years of age, with a high school diploma (secondary school certificate)

Mature Admission
Cambrooks College will consider mature students, who may not possess the above qualifications, if they:
1. Are 25 years or older.
2. Obtain a satisfactory result on an equivalency test. The candidate should obtain a 60% in the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test administered by the college.
Cambrooks College English Language Proficiency Policy
Proof of English language proficiency may be required from candidates whose first language (the language you learned in your home as a child) is not English.
Definition of first language: This is the language you learned in your home as a child.
If your first language is English, you are not required to provide proof of ELP; instead, you must show evidence of passing Grade 12 English (or an equivalent course) at credit level
If you have successfully completed four or more years of full-time study achieving satisfactory academic progress in a Canadian school, you are not required to provide proof of English facility; instead, you must show evidence of passing Grade 12 English (or an equivalent course)
If you have less than four years of full-time study in a Canadian school, you must present proof of English facility
If your first language is other than English, and you have successfully completed four years or more in a country where the dominant language is English, you are not required to provide proof of ELP; instead, you must show evidence of having passed Grade 12 English
If you have less than four years in a country where the dominant language is English, you must present evidence of ELP

Other Conditions
1. English Language Proficiency tests cannot be more than two years old.
2. Canadian Residents are required to show proof of residency, such as passport, PR card, or proof of refugee status, while international students are required to show a valid study visa.
3. Applicants who are from the following countries are exempt from having to send proof of English language proficiency:
